NBC is developing a new web-based series with Omnicom Media Group Digital, called Woke Up Dead, about a college kid named Drex Greene, who…well, wakes up one day to find out he’s a zombie, and how he deals with it. They’re letting advertisers get in at the ground floor to help pick how they want their product integrated into the show. Omnicom’s CEO Matt Spiegel was quoted saying “This is the first time that programming with the distribution potential of NBC Universal will be centered from the start around advertisers”. It’ll be shown in 50 three minute episodes, but there’s been no launch date set at the moment. The whole “product placement” aspect of this gives me the feeling that this will be nothing more than an attempt of co-opting a much loved genre to make a few bucks for the network. To me, this just sounds like Saved By The Bell: The College Years, with zombies.

Episode 2 of Dead Patrol is now online. The last episode produced a lot of discussion, so let’s keep it civil this time.

I like to look at it as the sequel to every zombie movie ever made,” Scott, 33, said. “Most (zombie) movies take place in the city; they show all the destruction - this is the country’s point of view.
We’ll keep you up to date as to when the web series will premiere.

Back in September we told you about Dead Patrol, a web video series. The first episode is finally online, and it was well worth the wait! It’s really well done for a web series. I’ll be anxiously awaiting episode 2.

What wonderful times we live in. Computer technology and the Internet have enabled independent filmmakers to produce films and distribute them to the world easily, cheaply, and quickly. There are several online-only zombie serials going on now (for example the excellent War of the Dead and the upcoming Day of the Dying Living) and to add that list is Dead Patrol.
Dead Patrol starts in October but you can check out their trailer here. The series focuses on an army squad who is tasked with setting off nuclear devices in urban areas in order to clean out the undead. It’s a great idea and the quality looks outstanding for a web-based series. I’ll be looking forward to watching when the series starts.
War of the Dead Episode 2 is now online for your viewing pleasure. It’s an awesome show, go check it out.

I just saw this new online zombie series, War of the Dead, and was pretty blown away by it. There’s one episode up for viewing right now, with the next episode on it’s way. Definitely worth checking out. Here’s some info from the site:
The show follows a team of four Z.E.R.O. Security Agents on their various missions to destroy zombie outbreaks. This is the back-up team - a group of violent, dysfunctional, yet elite soldiers who are mentally and physically trained to handle the stresses of this line of work.
It’s somewhere between Law & Order and every kick-ass zombie film you’ve ever seen, with just enough humor mixed in. Pretty damn cool.
