UK Now Holds Zombie Guinness World Record?

According to Telegraph.co.uk, Nottingham, England has broken the world record for a zombie walk/ gathering, previously held by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Nottingham had a hefty 1227 zombies, beating Pittsburgh previous record of 1124. I guess we’ll all just have to go to Pittsburgh next October and win it back! Road trip anybody?

EDIT: November 23- ZRC reader Nix pointed out that the final tally for Pittsburgh this year was 1,341. So according to the It’s Alive Zombie Fest, Pittsburgh should still hold the record. Both of these gatherings were done within a week of eachother and both are claiming the record. I’ve contacted Guinness about official counts on both walks, and hope to hear back from them soon.

Jackson Free Press Concerned About Zombie Apocolypse

zombieocalypse_large.jpg

In a recent article in the Jackson Free Press, writer M.P. Heindl tackles concerns in Jackson, Mississippi about a possible zombie apoclypse.

“Often I’m up until 2 a.m., certain that tonight will be the night that one of NASA’s space probes to Venus will explode upon re-entry and radiate the brains of the freshly dead, or that one of the millions of current biological warfare experiments will escape into the public in the form of enraged monkeys.”

With several interviews of downtown Jackson employees, the article gives a well rounded look at the many concerns that Jacksonians have about zombies and their survival of a zombie apocolypse.

Dawn Rising, Undead Lawsuit

Dawn Of The Dead Rising

We reported a couple weeks ago about Capcom seeking to beat the MKR Group (holders to the copyright to Dawn Of The Dead) to the punch and get a judge to rule that their Dead Rising video game and Dawn Of The Dead are different enough not to infringe on any copyrights. But, the MKR Group has gone ahead and filed suit against Capcom this past Monday.

“Both works are dark comedies. In both, the recreational activities of the zombies and absurdly grotesque ‘kill scenes’ provide unexpected comedic relief,” said the legal filing by MKR. “Both works provided thoughtful social commentary on the ‘mall culture’ zeitgeist, in addition to serving up a sizable portion of sensationalistic violence.”

The MKR Group’s complaint is based on the fact that Dead Rising is a video game about killing zombies in a shopping mall setting. Dawn Of The Dead is about survivors of a zombie holocaust holed up in a shopping mall.

Whether or not there will be a release of a sequel to Dead Rising will no doubt be based on the outcome of this suit and will be on hold until then.

Saturday Reads - The Walking Dead

31 Days of Halloween

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is a monthly comic book series written by Robert Kirkman. It follows a police officer and his family as they try to survive in a zombie apocalypse. The cast of characters is constantly changing as people leave, die, and occasionally become zombies. So many characters come and go - it’s almost the War and Peace of zombie books.

I love this comic and it’s just amazing how it can play on your emotions. You can feel the despair of the characters as they face horrible situations and are forced to make difficult choices. The art is always moody and expressive. In short it’s something you should be reading if you have any interest in zombies at all.

Zombies in Belfast

battleofhtebone.jpg

There’s a new indie zombie movie, The Battle of the Bone, being filmed in Belfast, Ireland. A quote from it’s director/writer George Clarke:

“The Battle Of The Bone tells the story of a zombie invasion in Belfast city centre as Orange marchers and nationalist protesters are about to face off…”

A little side note: In case the title comes off as slightly dumb, it’s actually a reference to the Battle of the Boyne, which is commemorated every year on July 12, the same day the film takes place.
