MTV.com’s Splash Page blog talks with new The Walking Dead executive producer/ showrunner Glen Mazzara and his plans for the second season, which premieres October 16th, including the season’s main location- Hershel Greene’s farm. Mazzara had this to say:

“Our approach to our group of survivors when they reach Hershel’s farm is that they are a plague unto themselves. Nothing goes right for Hershel once Rick and his band show up. They make the zombie apocalypse look like kids in a candy story”…

Mazzara also brings up the Governor, but doesn’t say much in regards to him. Read the rest of the article here.

DC Comics imprint Vertigo launches their new zombie series I, Zombie, by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred, this May and issue one will only cost $1.00! I’m excited to see Allred’s crisp, clean style back doing horror comics and can not wait to read the first issue. You can sample I, Zombie by reading the seven page prequel from last year’s House of Mystery Halloween Annual online for free. Also, check out this interview with both creators from last summer on CBR.com to get some insight into their creation.

Danny Boyle was quoted today in a interview over at MTV Movies Blog as saying “It’s not a zombie movie, everyone. It’s not a zombie movie…They’re infected. They’re not zombies.”, in regard to Simon Pegg’s recent request that zombies be slow again. Where was the esteemed Mr. Boyle during our ZMON? 28 Days Later? He also had just a few words on the next 28 Days film, “It don’t think it will be called 28 Months Later, that’s all I can say…I mean, it’s absolutely not written yet, but there’s a prospect of an idea and the way these ideas start is you just suddenly get a little glimpse”.

The ZRC recently had the chance to ask Berserker Comics, publisher of the upcoming zombie comic The Dead: Kingdom of Flies (available this month), a few questions about making comics, working with great comic creators, and of course…their favorite zombie movie.

ZRC: Why zombies? Or really, WHY NOT?

Berserker Comics: We love the genre, It’s that simple.

ZRC: Where do you draw the inspiration for the zombies in The
Dead?

Berserker Comics: Being big zombie fans we have had lots of reference to work with.  Our inspiration has come from our combined knowledge of zombie movies and stories.  We
have tried to make a story for zombie fans by zombie fans.

ZRC: What would you do if zombies smashed into your studio?

Berserker Comics: Take down my trusty sword and start choppin!!

ZRC: What’s it like working with such an amazing group of creators?

Berserker Comics: Its a great experience to work with such professional people.  We couldn’t ask
for a better team.

Max Brooks is sticking with the zombie genre with his new The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks Graphic Novel. I saw a promo for this on the Avatar table at Wizard World Chicago and have been excited about it since. Now with a release (kinda, see below) date set, I can’t wait to read it. A description from the Random House site:

 Man has battled the undead for millenia. In The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks bestselling author and “Studs Terkel of zombie journalism,” Max Brooks provides the lessons that history has taught us about zombie outbreaks. This is not a list of all zombie attacks throughout history, but a chronicling of the most famous outbreaks, gruesomely illustrated in graphic novel form.

There are a lot of release dates being given for this book, but in an interview with Max Brooks (where he discusses the new GN) over at ComicMix, he says October 2008, from Avatar Press, and Random House, where it’s currently available for pre-order, says it will be out on January 6, 2009. I’m guessing (only guessing here) that one will release a softcover, and the other the hardcover. This happens pretty often between the book and comic direct markets. We’ll just have to wait and see.
