Motor City Nightmares Wrap-Up

The ZRC took a little road trip to Novi, MI  on Saturday to check out our new local horror convention Motor City Nightmares. It was a great first show and we had a really good time there handing out ZRC stickers and talking with creators and fans. We’re all looking forward to their next show. The photo above is from Evil Genius Entertainment‘s MySpace. See more of their photos from the show here.

Romero Appearance Canceled at Motor City Nightmares

Just a head’s up to anyone planning on attending Motor City Nightmares in Novi, MI this weekend: GEORGE A. ROMERO HAS CANCELED HIS APPEARANCE. You will still get to meet, from the original Night of the Living Dead:  Judith O’Dea, Russ Streiner, Bill Hinzman , Kyra Schon, George Kosana, and John Russo.  Also attending will be Tony Todd (Night of the Living Dead 1990), Linnea Quigley (The “Original Scream Queen”, Return of the Living Dead) and many other great horror guests (including Tobe Hooper!). Here’s the info regarding the cancellation, from the Motor City Nightmare’s site:

On July 11th we got the word from Mr. George A. Romero that he unfortunately had to leave for Europe this week to begin work on another film project and will not be in attendance.  This is the only reason he’d ever miss a show.  Of course we are all very saddened by this.

Mr. Romero does appreciate his fans and had this to say:

Dear Fans of Motor City Nightmares:

I’m so very sorry I will be unable to attend the show and this leg of the
Night of the Living Dead tour.  Because of work related issues, I have
had to  cancel my attendance there with you.  I want to thank Tobe for
stepping in for me, and I hope to be invited back in the future.  Until
we meet again, Stay Scared!

George A. Romero

Mr. Romero sent us ‘limited edition’ signed photos of himself and photos of himself with the cast of NOTLD.  The rest of the NOTLD cast will be at the show!

Cool Stuff we saw at Flashback Weekend

We had a great time at Flashback Weekend and saw more cool things than you can shake a stick at! Seriously at times it felt like I was one of the bobble heads looking around at the neat stuff. So here is a little gallery of cool stuff we saw:

Teddy Scares! – They’re undead teddy bears. Erin bought two of them. We’ll have a full post about these things soon!

George Romero! – ‘Nuff said.

Our very own Jef – Hanging out with the stars of NOTLD. (Bill Hinzman shown)

Decomposing Heads – Perfect for your mantle.

Elvira and Svengoolie – Two Horror Show legends on stage together

Zombie Beauty Pageant – What’s not to like?

Nate – With Texas Chainsaw Massacre celebs Caroline Williams and Marilyn Burns

We had a great time and can’t wait until the next convention!

Flashback Weekend Zombie Pinup Contest

Poise, beauty, and BRAAAAAIIIIINS – these girls had it all. Flashback Weekend’s annual Zombie Pinup Contest was a fun event that showed that beauty really is only skin deep (rotting, stinking skin that is). You can view our photos of the event here.

Flashback Weekend Costume Contest

It was a parade of fear yesterday as Chicago horror legend Svengoolie hosted the Flashback Weekend Costume Contest. Our very own Jef Porkins did a stunning job with his own makeup but sadly it was a man in a monkey suit (Planet of the Apes, specifically) that won Best in Show. You check out all our pics from the contest here.

What would you do if zombies attacked the convention hall? We asked convention attendees and several of the celebrity guests this same question. Listen to what they have to say by listening to our Flashback Weekend Podcast!

HorrorHound Weekend Detroit

Awesome news for Michiganders and Midwesterners alike! Michigan is the newest home to a HorrorHound Weekend show, with HorrorHound Weekend Detroit happening October 24-26. While they names is a little misleading, since it is actually taking place in Ypsilianti, MI (which isn’t in Detroit), we are still excited to be having a show happen in our backyard. Tom “Thrill Me” Atkins (Night of the Creeps) has already been announced as a guest, with more coming soon! Watch here for more updates.
