Learn To Speak Zombie, One RAHHHhh At A Time!

9780811874885_large

The humorous How to Speak Zombie: A Guide for the Living is now out from Chronicle Books (who also distributes Quirk Books, publisher of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). It’s available for $14.95 and has 24 full color pages and a built-in sound module full of zombie sounds! From Chronicle’s description:

In a world overtaken by zombies, the only hope for survival lies in learning the language of the undead. How to Speak Zombie demonstrates how to blend in and avoid being eaten while carrying on with everyday activities like ordering a latte from a zombarista and shopping at a zombie-infested mall.

Also, listen to the samples here. Learn to order the cup of coffee before they eat your brains!

Fuck Twilight- This Is Zombie VS. Unicorn!

ZVU

A new book written and edited by young adult authors Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier might just answer the age old question: who’s better, zombies oir unicorns? Find out in their book, aptly titled Zombies VS. Unicorns. Here’s their description of the book:

In this anthology, edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier (unicorn and zombie, respectively), strong arguments are made for both sides in the form of short stories.  Half of the stories portray the strengths – for good and evil – of unicorns and half show the good (and really, really bad-ass) side of zombies. This anthology will have everyone asking: Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?

This books seems so absurd, but I must admit different scenarios ran through my head when I heard it’s title, so they must be onto something. Available September 21st 2010, for $16.99,  from Simon & Schuster.

DIY Zombie: The Little Book of Zombie Limericks

il_430xN.115275765

Do you love zombies and limericks? Well shit, then you should check out The Little Book of Zombie Limericks by Emily White. I myself hate limericks, but this could be humorous, especially if you enjoy a good undead poem. Here is the info from her Etsy page:

I have gone and written some zombie limericks!! (poems include how to deal with a horde of zombies, zombies looking for breakfast, Macon, GA zombies, smelly zombies, turning into a zombie, and more!) Plus I have hand bound them into a lovely little self published pocket book!! The book measures 4.25″ x 5.5″. Nine original zombie limericks, and many black and white pictures, drawn by me ;). This book has 16 pages, and the cover is a caution yellow card stock. Hand sewn binding in black thread. Would make a really unique card to give a zombie loving friend (fits in a standard note card envelope), or just one of those weird little coffee table books…Or bathroom reader!

This could all be yours for $6.00.  There is also a Volume II and III available.

Natalie Portman – Zombie Killer?

Everyone’s favorite Nabooian Natalie Portman is poised to take the lead in the upcoming film adaption of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Portman will portray Elizabeth Bennet, who must struggle to fight off the zombies while also courting a string of wealthy suitors. Not only has Ms. Portman signed on to act, she will also be producing the film. I think she’s a great fit for the role, but is she up to the job of producing a good zombie flick?

Permuted Press get co-publishing deal with Pocket Books

We’d just like to take a moment and say congratulations to our friends over at Permuted Press. They recently announced a co-publishing deal with Pocket Books! This will give them much wider distribution and bring their line of horror books to a much larger audience. Best of all, the first book to be published is one of my favorites – Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne. (make sure to check out our review!) Permuted Press has been a big supporter of the ZRC since our early days and we’re very happy for them – good work guys!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

I just got word this morning that the release date for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has been moved up to April 13, 2009. Kick ass! Now I only have to wait a couple more weeks instead of a month and a half!

For those of you who haven’t heard about the book, here’s what the press release had to say:

“Jane Austen’s Regency classic collides with zombie horror at its best in the first of a new monster literary mash-up genre. Complete with romance and civilised sparring, social satire and rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms Jane Austen’s masterpiece into a gory comedy of manners for a twenty-first century generation of readers.”

You’ll be able to find this at Amazon.com as well as at your favorite book retailer.

Zombies: A Field Guide to the Walking Dead

Check out this new(ish) book Zombies: A Field Guide to the Walking Dead, by Dr. Bob Curran. Here’s a description of the book from Amazon:

In the myths, legends, and folklore of many peoples, the returning, physical dead play a significant role, whether they are the zombies of Haiti or the draugr of Scandinavia. But what are the origins of an actual bodily return from the grave? Does it come from something deep within our psyche, or is there some truth to it?

In Zombies, Bob Curran explores how some of these beliefs may have arisen and the truths that lay behind them, examining myths from all around the world and from ancient times including Sumerian, Babylonian, Egyptian, and Celtic. Curran traces the evolution of belief in the walking cadaver from its early inception in religious ideology to the “Resurrections” and cataleptics of 18th century Europe, from prehistoric tale to Arthurian romance. Zombies even examines the notion of the “living dead” in the world today–entities such as the “living mummies” of Japan.

Zombies is a unique book, the only one to systematically trace the development of a cultural idea of physical resurrection and explore the myths that have grown around it, including the miracles of Old Testament prophets. It will interest those enticed by the return of the corporeal dead and also those curious as to how such an idea sits within the historical context.

You can order a copy of the book here.

The Zombie Chronicles – Podcasted Novel

I have to give props to our friend Corey over at The Midnight Podcast who tipped us off to this new zombie novel that is being distributed digitally in podcast form. With high production values and real voice acting it shares more in common with the best audio books than an independent production. It’s serialized and new episodes are released every week. The author, James Melzer, offers it all up for free so if you enjoy it please donate a few bucks to him.
