NPR Explores Zombie Popularity
Venerable news institution NPR took a look at the popularity of zombie movies and literature this week. While the piece is mainly fluff for most readers of this site, it is interesting that zombie-mania is being recognized by the mainstream media. There is no doubt in my mind that zombies as pop-culture icon are more popular than ever – how about you? Are zombies just a fad or there they here to stay?

you know, hard to say — teh Zombie is the only undead with this favor magnitude. In my imagination the zombie is kind of like a symbol of voyeuristic subculture. It’s the swarms found kind of survivable. “If I die I can be a plague to humanity.”

i enjoy this blog even if i don’t ever comment =D/
It seems there are cycles of dormancy and resurrection, if you’ll forgive the phrase. However, modern zombies have been going on for some forty years (thanks George!) with only cosmetic changes (some running fast, radiation to bioweapons, et cetera). Most of them are still mindless, and most of them (all, according to definition purists) are still dead. I think we’ll have zombies for quite a while.
In fact, I hold out hope that zombies will become a cultural staple as vampires have – essentially immortal in a cultural sense. I just hope they don’t get castrated by frilly Anne Rice-type and dippy Twilight-type novels.
I believe that zombies are at a pop culture highpoint, at least the overall idea with the infection and society coming crashing down and the unexplained mass violence, but in the oldest of the oldpurest sence zombies might as well be dead, i don’t think iv’e ever seen one referenced as to actually craving brains in a long time, i think its more of a matter of personal preference. To me it couldn’t be better at this point
