Just a quick note to let our readers know that the somewhat controversial gay zombie film Otto; Or, Up With Dead People will finally get a DVD release on February 9, from Strand Releasing. And yes, we know it’s “gay”.

Have you ever wanted to turn your Barbie doll into a “Zombie Barbie”? Well then Norway’s Paranaiv.no tells you how to do it. Sure, this seems like a no-brainer, but I thought the bit with the skull was at least somewhat “crafty”.

With the insanity of “Zombiesgiving” happening this week and the busy lives of the ZRC crew, we took one day off. But don’t fret! You’ll still get your daily zombie news, uninterrupted, for the rest of 2008 and beyond. Thanks to all of our readers, old and new. Gobble gobble!

Where do we draw the line on what is and what is not a zombie movie? We just can’t decide on our own, so every Monday we’ll post a new movie to be debated by, you, our readers and ask the question: Zombie Movie Or Not? Every Sunday we’ll post our findings and possibly strike that movie off our Zombie Movie List. The week should give you enough time to rent the movie if need be or you desire.
What every reader must keep in mind is that there are two basic types of zombie that every zombie movie based off of – the Voodoo Zombie and the Romero Zombie. The Voodoo Zombie, while not always raised by Voodoo necessarily, is basically a person, either undead or entranced, that is controlled by a person or entity for the purpose of completing tasks, often killing. Romero Zombies are basically mindless, flesh-eating undead whose bite will turn victims into zombies. Now, not all movies adhere to all of these rules, but if the basics are there, you got a zombie movie.

This weeks debate is over The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) Starring Max Von Sydow.
IS: Jesus died and was resurrected from the dead. Resurrection = Zombie! Then there’s the whole “Eat of the body and drink of his blood” thing…
IS NOT: Just because someone died and came back to life doesn’t mean they are a zombie.
Now it’s up to you, reader. What do you think? The Greatest Story Ever Told: Zombie Movie Or Not?
The debate for Universal Soldier: Zombie Movie Or Not?, received 14 comments and 13 non-repeating votes. With 0 votes for and 13 votes against being a Zombie Movie, as far as this site is concerned, Universal Soldier is NOT a Zombie Movie.
Stay tuned for next week’s debate: The Greatest Story Ever Told: Zombie Movie Or Not?

According to Telegraph.co.uk, Nottingham, England has broken the world record for a zombie walk/ gathering, previously held by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Nottingham had a hefty 1227 zombies, beating Pittsburgh previous record of 1124. I guess we’ll all just have to go to Pittsburgh next October and win it back! Road trip anybody?
EDIT: November 23- ZRC reader Nix pointed out that the final tally for Pittsburgh this year was 1,341. So according to the It’s Alive Zombie Fest, Pittsburgh should still hold the record. Both of these gatherings were done within a week of eachother and both are claiming the record. I’ve contacted Guinness about official counts on both walks, and hope to hear back from them soon.

With the release of Left 4 Dead on the XBox 360, Nintendo fans have been left out in the cold for zombie-related games (House of the Dead 2 &3 Return and the upcoming Dead Rising Chop ‘Till You Drop). Fortunately this spring will see the release of Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers for the Nintendo Wii. As you can probably guess, the game will feature nubile young ladies hacking and slashing their way through a zombie stampede.
