High School Student Arrested for Writing Zombie Story
EDIT: This story is a few years old. A lot of sites, including Boing Boing, also ran it today as NEW, which it isn’t. Sorry…we got suckered, along with everybody else!
William Poole, a Kentucky high school student, was arrested this week after turning in a short story he wrote for an assignment. The story was about a high school overrun with zombies and authorities took this to be a threat and quickly arrested the student.
“My story is based on fiction,” said Poole, who faces a second-degree felony terrorist threatening charge. “It’s a fake story. I made it up. I’ve been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies.”
It’s a sad world where acts of fiction are treated the same as acts of terrorism. Regardless of whether or not he should’ve known better in a post-columbine world, I feel bad for the kid.

Felony charges? Ouch…
Ha ha…
Does this make Romero the bin Laden of zombie movie terror? The man has clearly influenced this evil-doer, right? When is that Canuck (yeah, he’s a Canadian citizen nowadays – can you blame him?) gonna end up on FBI:s most wanted list? Does Canada extradite terror suspects to the US? Does the President know? Does the hopeful presidential candidates know? (Evil Zombie McCaine should be in on this, right?)
This really got my mind working… Or not. At least I managed to get ZRC on the list (ever heard of Echelon?) of websites sponsoring terror. Because you guys do support this soon-to-be suicide-bomber, right? I know for a fact that you support zombie movies, so that makes you all terrorist. It’s a matter of logic, pure and simple. I’ll be seeing you where they wear the orange jump suites! Allahu Akbar! (Notice the pun – my user name.)
Are You FN kidding me!?!?
From one Detective to another, “Steven Caudill, YOU’RE AN FN TOOL!” All that detective cared about was getting a stupid felony arrest stat (I bet his Sgt. is wishing he didn’t approve that arrest).
There are two positives to this story though:
1) Though the detective and arraignment judge were probably bored off their asses; being an election year, I can’t see their State Attorney seriously filing charges (if the state does, homeboy better move out of Bizzaro Land).
2) That kid will be rolling in the cash real soon………..I hope he doesn’t settle for the first low-ball offer.
Hey “Enlightenment”- Boing Boing ran this story today as brand new. Boing Boing has now been updated that the story is old also. So, Boing Boing must be idiots too! Sometimes mistakes happen. If this enrages you, do us a favor and stop reading our site. We love our readers, but loathe righteous pricks like you.
Since I mainly write in the horror genre, this could have easily of happened to me in Highschool. When I think back on the kinds of stories I turned in…luckily, none had a plot line that was based a school, but yikes.
Who’s “Enlightenment”?
So this story turned out not only to be old but also bogus. There were no zombies in this guys journal.
Pork-Eater: It was somebody that was quite adamant about calling us idiots and typing in all capitals to get their point across and show their anger.
Wow, someone actually wrote a defamatory letter calling you guys idiots for posting this article? Regardless of whether or not it’s a couple years old, I got this story on numerous blog rolls and newsblasts the other day so…it fooled a lot of people.
Why are zombie fans coming unglued? It’s frickin October!
~RM~
Yeah, I was searching for any kind of follow up to this case, being that it’s a few years old and the only thing I could find was, besides other sites that had posted it this week and other sites that were undated at all, was somebody blogging about how they had been following it. The only new news they had written was that the kid lied about it being a zombie story, and that little tidbit was hard to find and impossible to confirm. Evidently the local newspaper that was sited as reporting on this story on every site I went to came up with an Error 404 rather than an article.
Anybody got any leads as to how this whole story played out? Maybe Mr. Enlightenment could enlighten us all.
(I’m not entirely convinced that mr Enlightenment is allowed to post here anymore…)
Mr. Enlightenment isn’t even worth discussing…the only thing he did was name-call us for running an old story and then also accuse us of “stealing” said story, that a hundred other sites also ran that day. Obviously a fan of ours…
Just for the record – I didn’t even see his reponse!
Did he delete on his own, Nate? Maybe he realized that he may have overreacted a bit…
I didn’t even notice it was gone. I might of “spammed” it by accident. Let’s see if Erik can dig it up and re-instate it…
