Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Where do we draw the line on what is and what is not a zombie movie? We just can’t decide on our own, so every Monday we’ll post a new movie to be debated by, you, our readers and ask the question: Zombie Movie Or Not? Every Sunday we’ll post our findings and possibly strike that movie off our Zombie Movie List. The week should give you enough time to rent the movie if need be or you desire.
What every reader must keep in mind is that there are two basic types of zombie that every zombie movie based off of – the Voodoo Zombie and the Romero Zombie. The Voodoo Zombie, while not always raised by Voodoo necessarily, is basically a person, either undead or entranced, that is controlled by a person or entity for the purpose of completing tasks, often killing. Romero Zombies are basically mindless, flesh-eating undead whose bite will turn victims into zombies. Now, not all movies adhere to all of these rules, but if the basics are there, you got a zombie movie.

This weeks debate is over Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride (2005) Starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter.
IS: The Corpse Bride is the risen dead. The reanimated remains of the once living. That’s a zombie.
IS NOT: Being the risen dead doesn’t make her Undead. She doesn’t feed on flesh or do necessarily evil things at all. Not a Zombie Movie.
Now it’s up to you, reader. What do you think? Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Not.
she is risen dead therefore undead, but she is not a romero zombie nor a voodoo zombie.
i am on the fence on this one. it is more of a zombie movie than the 28 days/weeks series though if you ask me because she is actually dead.
to be honest, i have tried to watch this like 3 times. i can’t do anything with johnny depp where he is not captain jack sparrow. so umm… pirates 4… the fountain of youth… jolly roger leads a zombie crew… just throwing that out there.
my answer: nes, or yo! i mean yes, or no! err… maybe. it may be a zombie movie.
not. typical romance horror set between two creatures on opposite sides of living, but HBC’s character isn’t a zombie. People are “rising” from their graves, but they’ve clearly died and experienced “afterlife” only to discover it is much the same as “life” and they respond the same to it. They are not mindless and cannibalistic, nor controlled by any central force, and you need one of those to be a zombie. The people in Corpse Bride are not technically undead, I’d say – just dead. The central theme of this movie is to juxtapose opposites – shy and zealous, rich and poor, innocent and manipulative, the living and the dead. Zombie movies obscure the boundary of life and death, whereas the distinction is very clear here, and the dead are the same as the living in terms of not just thinking, but also emoting and expressing, and they’re not a hive of devouring plague creatures on humanity.
I vote no. I don’t think of this movie as a zombie movie at all. Just kind of a boring cartoon.
Not a zombie movie. It was more of a curse that let her rise from the grave. Not a contagious disease and not voodoo. Therefore it’s not a zombie movie.
“Just kind of a boring cartoon.” probably why i have never made it more than 10 minutes in…
i vote NOT!
Not.
I haven’t seen this film, so I can’t really put forth my opinion about it too much. But, I will say, that from seeing the trailers and having general knowledge concerning it, it always seemed to me to be more related to a Frankenstein type of film than zombie. But I have no definite conclusion or answer for it.
I’m going to say No – the corpse bride is more of a fantasy tale than a scary monster.
