Army Of Darkness: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Where do we draw the line on what is and what is not a zombie movie? We just can’t decide on our own, so every Monday we’ll post a new movie to be debated by, you, our readers and ask the question: Zombie Movie Or Not? Every Sunday we’ll post our findings and possibly strike that movie off our Zombie Movie List. The week should give you enough time to rent the movie if need be or you desire.
What every reader must keep in mind is that there are two basic types of zombie that every zombie movie based off of – the Voodoo Zombie and the Romero Zombie. The Voodoo Zombie, while not always raised by Voodoo necessarily, is basically a person, either undead or entranced, that is controlled by a person or entity for the purpose of completing tasks, often killing. Romero Zombies are basically mindless, flesh-eating undead whose bite will turn victims into zombies. Now, not all movies adhere to all of these rules, but if the basics are there, you got a zombie movie.

This weeks debate is over Army Of Darkness. (1992) Directed by Sam Raimi.
IS: Ash fights an army of the living dead, you know, like zombies.
IS NOT: The army of the dead are no more zombies than Frankenstein, they’re re-animated dead, but not zombies.
Now it’s up to you, reader. What do you think? Army Of Darkness: Zombie Movie Or Not?

This is not a zombie movie. More of a demon possession flick.
Shop smart, shop S-Mart!
I say yea.
I have to say yes, it’s a zombie movie.
My vote is for yes, based purely on the history of the other Evil Dead movies.
Wow… Usually I think everything is a zombie movie, but Army of Darkness is NOT a zombie movie.
Not a zombie movie…an awesome movie, but not a zombie movie. Although I’d love to see Ash fight a horde of real Romero zombies…
yes,zombie movie
I love this series immensely, but I’ve never seen it as a zombie movie. Even in the Evil Dead movies, it seemed more like what Cory said, a demonic possession situation.
I’d like to read WHY people think of it as a zombie movie, because so far everyone voting yes has just said “Yes, zombie movie” and have given no supporting argument. Please, give supporting arguments so this can be a discussion, not just a poll.
I say it’s not a zombie movie.
This is a tough one because the ‘creatures’ seem to be a take off voodoo zombies. But they’re not todays take on the modern zombie that eats and spreads a virus. They can also be easily killed, unlike todays zombie. So, I’m going to have to say no. I love the movies but they’re not really Zombie movies.
Deadites are evil demonic forces that were “summoned” into the world via the necronomicon. Key words here are demonic and summoned. The body can host the deadite as long as it’s alive, If the body dies then the demon is released to search for a new host to take over. As much as I love the movies, they are definately not zombie flick’s.
awesome movie. but not a zombie flick!
Yeah, Alistair summed it up perfectly. Not a zombie movie. They’re demons. But, the movie is still awesome, indeed!
Nope! Not a zombie flick!
Yes, thats a zombie movie.
not a zombie movie
NOPE, not any kind of zombie movie. I never did care for any of the Evil Dead movies, by the way…
This is not a “zombie movie” to me. But, I have always thought it should be included with zombie movies, mainly because it fits it’s fan base so well. It may not have brain-guzzling zombies in it, but it does have very similar aesthetics.
