C.H.U.D.: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Where do we draw the line on what is and what is not a zombie movie? We just can’t decide on our own, so every Monday we’ll post a new movie to be debated by, you, our readers and ask the question: Zombie Movie Or Not? Every Sunday we’ll post our findings and possibly strike that movie off our Zombie Movie List. The week should give you enough time to rent the movie if need be or you desire.
What every reader must keep in mind is that there are two basic types of zombie that every zombie movie based off of - the Voodoo Zombie and the Romero Zombie. The Voodoo Zombie, while not always raised by Voodoo necessarily, is basically a person, either undead or entranced, that is controlled by a person or entity for the purpose of completing tasks, often killing. Romero Zombies are basically mindless, flesh-eating undead whose bite will turn victims into zombies. Now, not all movies adhere to all of these rules, but if the basics are there, you got a zombie movie.

This weeks debate is over C.H.U.D. (1984) Starring John Heard and Daniel Stern.
IS: They are re-animated creatures and they hunger for the flesh of the living.
IS NOT: They’re just nuclear-waste induced mutants. No infection, no zombie.
Now it’s up to you, reader. What do you think? C.H.U.D.: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Nope, Not a Zombie movie. But a fun mutant monster movie.
Yup! Gotta agree with Scott!
They are just mutated humans feeding on the flesh of homeless people living in the sewers, mostly because of lack of other food. C.H.U.D. II is more of a zombie film to me (which was apparently suppose to be a Return… sequel, but was rewritten to fit the C.H.U.D. mold). I completely love this film, but the answer is no.
this was a tough one for me but i have to say not a zombie movie.
NOT! so not! I could wax linguistics and literature, but I feel I’ve already typed too much, far more than should ever be typed about this movie. NOT ZOMBIES! Give it to another weird mostly crap horror subgenre plz!
Aside from being the slowest moving movie in history, it is NOT a zombie movie.
Ugh I can’t believe I sat through 96 minutes of this crap just to determine whether or not it was a zombie movie. There are some definite zombie themes but in the end I have to say that C.H.U.D.s are no more zombie than are vampires.
Not a zombie movie.
Not a Zombie flick…
Ugh I can’t believe I sat through 96 minutes of this crap…
What!
Ugh I can’t believe I sat through 96 minutes of this crap…
What!
It moves SOOOOO slowly. I understand they were trying to build suspense around this mystery, but in most of the time taken up is by loooong boring scenes that add nothing to the story.
For example when the photographer guy goes into the tunnels for the first time following the bag lady - it’s the sewers not freaking Mordor! It was like watching them walk the sewers in real time!
Maybe it’s just my 2000 sensibilities while watching a movie from the 80s, but I don’t know it was just REALLY SLOW. I wanted to see C.H.U.D.s fucking shit up not a boring meeting with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission!
…it’s the sewers not freaking Mordor!
GUFFAW!
I almost pissed myself when I read that line…fucking hilarious.
