Black Sheep: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Black Sheep: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Where do we draw the line on what is and what is not a zombie movie? We just can’t decide on our own, so every Monday we’ll post a new movie to be debated by, you, our readers and ask the question: Zombie Movie Or Not? Every Sunday we’ll post our findings and possibly strike that movie off our Zombie Movie List. The week should give you enough time to rent the movie if need be or you desire.

What every reader must keep in mind is that there are two basic types of zombie that every zombie movie based off of - the Voodoo Zombie and the Romero Zombie. The Voodoo Zombie, while not always raised by Voodoo necessarily, is basically a person, either undead or entranced, that is controlled by a person or entity for the purpose of completing tasks, often killing. Romero Zombies are basically mindless, flesh-eating undead whose bite will turn victims into zombies. Now, not all movies adhere to all of these rules, but if the basics are there, you got a zombie movie.

Black Sheep

This weeks debate is over Black Sheep (2006) Directed by Jonathan King.

IS: It’s an infection-style movie that has many aspects akin to the zombie genre that zombie movie buffs would definitely enjoy.

IS NOT: They’re fucking sheep.

Now it’s up to you, reader. What do you think? Black Sheep: Zombie Movie Or Not?

Yeah? Why isn’t it a were-sheep movie, in your opinion?

I’ve seen it and no, it’s not a zombie movie in any way. The sheep are zombie-ish even before they get infected, but the were-sheep people are too “bright” (and I use that term loosely) to be zombies unless it’s “Wild Zero”-type zeds. I say nay! :-)

I’m going to have to go with a no on this one.. While the sheep are close I haven’t seen zombie humans biting animals that turn into were-humans. It’s close in some aspects but too much of a stretch to make it a true zombie flic imo.

I think it fits nicely in the zombie genre, although awkwardly.

    My vote is yes.

Yes. It’s a transparent satirical take on the zombie genre.

  9. May 27th, 2008 | 5:01 pm

    My vote is yes.

I VOTED YES ON MULBERRY ST. SO I GOTTA GO WITH YES ON THIS ONE. AGAIN WERE TALKING ABOUT AN INFECTION THAT CAUSES HUMANS TO BECOME PRIMAL INSTINCTIVE FLESH EATING ZOMBIE LIKE CREATURES THAT SORT OF RETAIN A PINCH OF HUMANITY TO THEM. I STILL SAY THE INFECTION CAUSES A ZOMBIE LIKE STATE OF MIND ONLY THIS TIME ITS CAUSED BY GENETICALLY ALTERD SHEEP!!.

I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT IT DID CAUSE A TREE HUGGING VEGETARIAN TO START EATING MEAT. THOUGHT ID JUST AD THIS NOTE. I STILL SAY YES

Yes - sometimes in zombie fiction, the infection jumps to other members of the animal kingdom. These animals then attack damn near anything else that’s alive. Black Sheep is a *kind* of zombie film.

JOEY: I think you forgot something else also. You forgot to un-lock Caps Lock…

    Civin: Good point, man!

Ok … just saw this Friday night. I really liked this movie -
My vote: Yes this is a zombie movie. They are zombie sheep for sure.

This one really toes the line to me. The sheep are are really more mutant like than zombies, however that one took a shot directly to the head continued to attack. Also, the infection factor in humans cannot be ignored. I vote YES Zombie movie.

    Good flick BTW!

I’m going with yes. It has the same feel to me as a zombie film. While it may not be a typical zombie film, I would place it on the shelf with all the other zombie films.

Ok folks, here’s the million dollar question: Are the infected sheep/humans/were-sheep (un-)dead?
