1978 Dawn of the Dead Screening at Monroeville Mall

If you are going to HorrorHound Weekend in Pittsburgh during the weekend of the 20-22 of June, you MUST go to this Monsters HD sponsored late night screening of the original Dawn of the Dead at the Monroeville Mall! It’s showing on Saturday June 21st, as part of the Alamo Draft House Traveling Roadshow. You can get tickets at the con that weekend. Awesome…

I do wonder if the place still looks anything like in the movie? I mean, it has been 30 years since then. I could look much more like the mall in the Dawn remake, for crying out loud!

I also guess that the shooting of Dawn constituted the first ever zombie walk event, as crowds of zombie extras made their way to the mall for the day’s shoot. (Or was it that they left for home in their makeup, I don’t remember exactly. It was however mentioned in the Document of the Dead.)

Pork-Eater: Check out mallofthedead.net. It gives a lot of info on the Monroeville Mall and has some great photos too.

Worth the flight; however…….the tickets will be first come first serve at the con only. If anyone knows a site where the tickets can be guaranteed, hit us up with it. It be a shame to get airline tickets, reserve a hotel, and not be able to obtain these “Golden Tickets”. It would suck to spend all that money just to have Ken Foree charge you more money for looking at him sitting at his table and not getting those DOTD tickets.

    Nate: Thanks for the link!

It does still resemble its old self! Those blueprints would make for some excellent role-playing (old-school pen-and-paper style).
