May Contest Reminder!
This month’s contest is a variation of the old desert island question:
What one weapon would you bring to the zombie apocalypse?
I’d bring my trusty machete. The machete has been around nearly 300 years and is a strong and durable tool that can be used to cut, dig, scrape, hammer and smash just about anything. Although it’s medieval in appearance, the machete is still in widespread use throughout South America and Africa. When civilization comes to an end, I can’t think of a better, more versatile tool.
What would you bring to the apocalypse? We’re making it interesting and saying NO GUNS. No one wants to hear someone go on and on about the specs of their Glock 9mm with a laser scope or their AK-47 with the carbon fiber stock. We’re taking it one step further and requiring that you send us a photo of yourself with your weapon to ensure that you actually have it. So, don’t write about your 12 foot spear or prosthetic arm with the interchangeable chainsaw, mace and flamethrower attachments unless you actually have one. Besides why would you want to take a fantasy up against zombies?

- All submissions will be judged by the ZRC staff and the winner will receive a ZRC T-shirt and a bunch of stickers.

I think this was a great idea for a competition, but I immediately realized the idea was stillborn. The Mighty Jef kinda ruined it from the get go with that picture of himself and his new girlfriend. And by girlfriend I mean his badass Stanley Fubar – the latest in zombie survival/slaying.
Ok, your picture is kinda badass too, but only because of the combination of the machete, the bike and the tattoos. But you can’t beat content with mere style, now can you?
So, I guess we can all agree that Jef is the winner and move on. Free T-shirts for everyone, since you ruined your own competition? Please? (Those stickers are already for free, right?)
Or is someone actually gonna enter this thing? Post you picture already!

I do have to say that this picture gives me the giggles every time I see it.
Oh, is my face red! I didn’t read the submission guidelines so I thought you guys were still waiting for the first submission on these comments… Well, I’m glad to hear you didn’t scare away everyone with that picture or yours. I know I wouldn’t wanna enter the competition with a picture of me and my kitchen knife (or some lame shit like that) after you flashed your mighty Fubar!
On another note, a Swedish zombie blog (”Zombiebloggen”: zombie.bloggagratis.se) is currently having a survey on this very subject. Out of 45 answers 31% are going with the machete while a sword is in second place with 1/5 of the vote. The nearest option to the Fubar is your average crowbar, and it is currently in third place with about 15%. I voted for the crowbar myself, since it was the nearest thing to the – you guessed it – Fubar.
