Automaton Transfusion DVD Review

Automaton Transfusion

I’ve been waiting a while to see this film, after all the delays with it’s release. Well, I finally got to watch it, and my feelings about it are really in the middle of the road. There was some great gore in it (unborn baby eating, jaw tearing, chainsaw to the face, etc.), the acting was so-so, and the plot and timing were all over the place.

Basically, three “buddies” go to see a show in the neighboring city, and as they travel, they begin to notice that nobody else is around. meanwhile, back in town, everybody else is heading to a party, after witnessing a fellow student try to eat a teacher’s neck. Chaos ensues and zombies are everywhere, but not really. They just seem to pop-up when ever it’s convenient to eat somebody. Nobody, and I mean nobody seems to ever notice anything. Screams, blood, walking dead…nothing. Until it’s 3 inches from their face. That’s my main issue with the film. I can forgive wooden acting, wonky blood splatters and I can even forgive small plot holes here and there, but in the end, I just really didn’t care.

*****PSEUDO-SPOILER ALERT**** I won’t give away the ending, which is the topic of much debate across horror forums the internet over, but it leaves you in a weird spot. Half of me cracked up at the balls the director had for doing it, and the other half of me was annoyed that I’d have to wait at least a few years to see what the hell happens next.

*****PSEUDO-SPOILER ALERT OVER**** All in all, I didn’t hate it, but I was far from loving it. Will I invest the time to watch the sequel (that is being made?), sure, why not. I’ve sat through way worse films than this. So…in the end, pretty good gore, so-so-ish acting, sometimes decent cinematography (for about 1/3 of the film), a slow, boring plot that might lead into a way better story in part 2, and myself, left with mixed feelings concerning this film.

Would I recommend it? For fans of the genre, I guess I might, just not too strongly…
