Resident Evil: Zombie Movie Or Not?
Where do we draw the line on what is and what is not a zombie movie? We just can’t decide on our own, so every Monday we’ll post a new movie to be debated by, you, our readers and ask the question: Zombie Movie Or Not? Every Sunday we’ll post our findings and possibly strike that movie off our Zombie Movie List. The week should give you enough time to rent the movie if need be or you desire.
What every reader must keep in mind is that there are two basic types of zombie that every zombie movie based off of – the Voodoo Zombie and the Romero Zombie. The Voodoo Zombie, while not always raised by Voodoo necessarily, is basically a person, either undead or entranced, that is controlled by a person or entity for the purpose of completing tasks, often killing. Romero Zombies are basically mindless, flesh-eating undead whose bite will turn victims into zombies. Now, not all movies adhere to all of these rules, but if the basics are there, you got a zombie movie.

This weeks debate is over video game spin-off Resident Evil (2002) Starring Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez.
IS: It’s got zombies trying to eat the living, and is the basis of a modern zombie trilogy.
IS NOT: It’s just a bunch of mammals who get infected by a virus and mutate into monsters, not zombies.
Now it’s up to you, reader. What do you think? Resident Evil: Zombie Movie Or Not?

My wife is scared senseless of zombies and she was too scared to watch the entire move, so I’ll say yes, it is.
Definitely zombies. Resident Evil or Biohazard marked a new step in the evolution of the zombie genre. Viruses that caused zombification were once let loose by accidentally by the government, but with BioHazard, a large corporation with powers beyond a mere government and its lobbyists, develops and tests the virus intentionally as part of larger scheme to dominate the world. That was a huge step for the genre as zombies even jumped aboard the new literary tradition of fearing the corporation. Since this is RE’s official movie series, then it is also zombies.

I would say they are zombies, the use of a virus to cause a being to turn into a zombie is just a modern way of explaining the condition. It is also a way of making the future possibility of this occurring more plausible.
A definite yes to Resident Evil series. They are all excellent movies on top of that.
Yes, they are zombies, and so are the dogs! Now, how about the “nemesis”? Is that a zombie or some other monster entirely?
yes.zombie movie
YEAH ILL GO WITH ZOMBIE FLICK
YES — zombie movie.
It’s a clear-cut zombie movie. The zombies are even explicitly dead before they get back up (the Red Queen computer murders them with sprinklers and halon gas). It’s explained that the T-Virus reactivates dead tissue. The condition is contagious through bites, the zombies eat flesh and lack reasoning power, and the only way to stop them is to shoot them in the heads.
Like driekus said, the virus as a cause is just an update on the Romero form.
In response to Erik’s question, I’m going to say that Nemesis is something of an update on the Frankenstein monster (very loosely), and the “Licker” creatures are just mutants.
Zombie movie for sure.
YES!
otherwise i have been playing the video games for all the wrong reasons.
Hell yeah zombies, flesh eaters if I ever seen ‘em.
Definitely A zombie movie.
Death before reanimation, infectious bite, A total Romero zombie but, runners have been seen in the resident evil series.
There’s no question that this is a zombie movie.
