Diamond Dead Back in Production?
Hot off the release of Diary of the Dead comes word that George Romero’s zombie/rock and roll opus Diamond Dead may be back in production. This is one of those movies that’s been “in development” for ages; so long in fact that he’s already directed two other movies in the interim.
The excitement surrounding the film started with the arrival of the Diamond Dead website back in 2004. Things were so frenzied at one point it was rumored that Marilyn Manson signed on to play Jesus Christ in the film. Unfortunately, updates became fewer and attention was directed elsewhere with the release of Land of the Dead and aforementioned Diary of the Dead. The final nail in the coffin occurred last spring when the film’s official website shut down, seemingly for good. (interesting side-note - the site that replaced the old one is owned by a “G. Cameron Romero” - perhaps a relative?)
From the sound of it, funding just never took off the ground and the project was abandoned. However, we’re hearing rumblings that the producer is eager to get things started again. We’re looking forward to following this story in the future!
