Eating Steve: A Love Story
is a new zombie graphic novel by J. Mark Schmidt which a charming story of life, despair, and zombie-ism and is currently available from SLG Publishers, who have a fantastic
four page excerpt up on their site. The best part is, it’s under
$6.00
for 76 pages! Sounds pretty fantastic and been getting great
reviews.
I’m not putting down the craphic novel in any way, but what’s the deal with the brain-eating? Am I the only one who thinks that that’s like the worst zombie concept ever? Wasn’t it meant like a joke in the original RotLD? (That and claiming that Romero based his film on true events. Not that I’m putting down RotLD!)
I wonder if you used the term “craphic” novel on purpose, or if you just typed it too fast??? Just wondering…
Did I? Oh shit, I did. Well, English isn’t my first language. Not my second either for that matter… I really need to use a spell-checker when I write these comments!
Pork Eater - Why do you always have something negative to say? I find looking at things in the “glass half full” kinda way does a lot for me. You should try it!
Erin, I’d hate to be a “half-empty” kinda fellow, but I guess I can come off like that online. It’s not intentional anyway and I’m not going to apologize either.
Then, I really don’t think all-out positive comments do anyone any good. Like to reply to everything with: “that looks like the greatest thing ever!” – it simply isn’t interesting and thus not necessary. The exception would be when you comment on someone else’s work (like when you review stuff), then positive comments can be very helpful. That’s also the reason why I try to encourage reviewers themselves, but only if I think they have nailed it. If their stuff isn’t all that great, there’s no reason to encourage that sort of thing. (Like the misguided individual who called the Zombie Lake review “the greatest ever”, or something.)
This ties in to my criticism of the all-out bad reviews (both here and on numerous other places online). If you’re gonna put someone else down, do make sure that you’re own work isn’t worse than the stuff you are trashing. Makes sense?
I sort of hear what your saying with regards to reviews, however when you say things like ….
“(Like the misguided individual who called the Zombie Lake review “the greatest ever”, or something.) ”
Maybe for him that WAS. Why is he misguided because he doesn’t follow the same rules of logic as you. You seem to be very close minded in your comments and generally they are negative and self-righteous. Not saying that is how you really are in real life - but just as an outsider reading what you write… that’s just how I see it.
But, hey if that’s how you want to come off to others - fine by me. But, it just gets old after awhile.
And don’t take this as a message to stop commenting (you seem like the type to not let this deter you - which is totally commendable!)
I guess it’s very easy to get into a rant mode online. Sometimes it gets the best of me, sorry about that. I’ll try to better myself. So thanks, I guess. :-)
And I’ll admit to being a bit overly emotional today : )
Erin: If you had seen Zombie Lake, you’d know that it would take a very misguided individual to think that it was the greatest ever. I mean misguided on so many levels. Didn’t you read my review?
He didn’t say it was the greatest movie ever. He said it was the greatest REVIEW ever. And I was arguing not from a point of the movie - but because Pork Eater was annoying me with all the negativity with every single comment.
Erin, if you look back at my comments before this post, you will notice that I’ve posted a lot of positive comments too. And most negative comments haven’t been onesidedly negative, but rather balanced. In all fairness, you’re reacting because I didn’t post positive comments to your husbands posts… I’ll try to stay clear of those in the future.
Pork Eater - Are you being tongue-in-cheek? Because you are so far off base it isn’t even funny. Would you like me to actually COPY AND PASTE your words from other posts here?
And for what it’s worth - wasn’t this conversation OVER?
I don’t understand how you went from ” I guess it’s very easy to get into a rant mode online. Sometimes it gets the best of me, sorry about that. I’ll try to better myself. So thanks, I guess. ”

“In all fairness, you’re reacting because I didn’t post positive comments to your husbands posts… I’ll try to stay clear of those in the future.”
Seriously … get over yourself.
Well, what’s over is me apologizing to you. By calling me “close-minded” and “self-righteuos” you managed to get an apology. Well, guess what? I might just be those things, so consider the apology retracted.
And if you really do take a closer look at my comments you will see that you’re off base. Or is it just so that you interpret everything I write in a negative way? Anyway, it makes no difference to me anymore. Think what you want, I know I do.
Wasn’t this a post about a comic?
Yeah, sorry about that. But I’d still like to know what gives with all the brain eating in this genre of ours… I guess we can save that discussion for some forum, or something. Not that I’m being negative now, or junk.
