Maila Nurmi Vampira 1921-2008
Maila Nurmi, better known as the legendary 1950’s TV horror host Vampira and co-star of Plan 9 from Outer Space, passed away this week, at the age of 86. Abbattoir, the Rue Morgue blog, reports that Rue Morgue magazine will have a recent interview with Nurmi and a memorial for her in their March ‘08 issue. You can also read our ZRC Salutes: Vampira, from August of last year. We bid you farewell…

Oh my gosh… so sad.
How, exactly, is this zombie related? Do you consider Plan 9 to be a “zombie movie”?
Pork-Eater: “Plan 9″, of Plan 9 from Outer Space, is the alien’s plan to resurrect the dead of Earth. So yes, we consider it a zombie movie.
And to everybody else, please enjoy Plan 9 from Outer Space, by the late Ed Wood…
Yeah, it sure is the b-movie to end all b-movies… The only effective scene might be about 33 minutes in, when the dead police inspector rises from his grave. Now that’s horriffic!
Talking about the zombie movie genre, I personally only count from NotLD and forward. That is, flesh-eating living dead. Not because of narrow-mindedness, but of practical reasons. (I’m not counting vampire/mummy movies either. Robocop is a “zombie movie” by some definitions…)
I think your review of Plan 9 from Outer Space is negatively one sided…
Nope, I made a point out of pointing out the one positive thing I could find. So there you have it.
