Diary of the Dead release date 2/15/08

diary of the dead logo

Diary of the Dead still

It seems that Diary of the Dead now has a limited release date of February 15th, 2008. George A. Romero’s “reboot” of his zombie genre follows a group of students that set out to make a horror film and encounter a zombie outbreak at which point they turn their cameras toward the real horror show and film a documentary of their trek. After his big industry release of Land of the Dead, George A. Romero has decided go indie again for this one and finance the movie himself, hence the “limited” release. So, it may be difficult, initially, to see this movie as it’s release may not be wide-spread. Most likely, I will be looking forward to seeing it on DVD sometime late next year. Unless, of course, the arty theatre downtown sees fit to pick it up. Harrumph!

Zombie Panic Source Mod Released

Zombie Panic Half-Life

At long wait, Zombie Panic: Source for Half-Life 2 has been released! For those who have been playing Zombie Panic for Half-Life 1, must be very eager to play the Source version. But of course, it is always possible you never heard of Zombie Panic before. Thus, a small explanation of the modification: The basic idea of the Zombie Panic is to create solid game play that is based on a classic zombie outbreak scenario, the living dead are coming for the last remaining humans, and these survivors must fight them off and live through the day. Everyone joins a server, in the beginning you can either choose to join the human team or you can volunteer to be the first zombie. If no one volunteers the game will pick one human randomly and the game begins.

The starter zombie’s goal is to, of course kill the humans while the human goal is to stay alive as long as possible, complete objectives, or even wipe out all the zombies. The catch is that when a human is slayed he will simply join the ranks of the undead, now ready to finish off his old living teammates. The humans can’t tell by the player list who’s alive and who’s not, eventually there will only be one survivor still standing if all goes wrong, facing all the zombies which use to be allies, with his back to a wall. The zombies only have a certain number of reinforcements (lives), when a zombie is killed they lose 1 life from the counter. However, when a human is killed they gain 1 life. If the zombies only have 1 respawn left the humans can win the round by killing off the remaining undead left on the map.

County gets lawsuit from the ‘undead’

Larry Green

FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — The parents of a Franklin County man who was falsely declared dead and zipped in a body bag are suing former and current county medical officials.

Larry Green says medical officials inadequately checked his vitals after a car hit him in 2005.

Green was walking on Highway 401 near Louisburg the night he was hit.

Emergency Medical Technicians declared him dead at the scene, but after Green was taken to the morgue in a body bag and several hours passed, the county medical examiner found that he was still alive.

Undead or Alive Review

Undead or Alive

Set in the Old West, the movie begins with Elmer and Luke meeting over a piano and fisticuffs which lead to their immediate arrest by the town’s shady Sheriff. Locked in a cell next to a zombie, they make their escape by outwitting the deputy, robbing the Sheriff and leaving them both to be turned into zombies. While on the lamb, they meet an Indian woman named Sue, Geronimo’s niece who is out to destroy the US Army who have killed her people. They decide to help each other and wacky hy-jinx ensue. All the while Geronimo’s curse on the white man takes the form of a zombie outbreak.
This self-proclaimed “Zombedy” was better than I thought it would be. Luke, played by Chris Kattan, is a good fool to James Denton’s straight man character, Elmer. It’s sometimes ham-fisted, but most of it is well played. If you enjoy stupid-funny, you’ll dig this. To give you a taste of some of the humor in this movie, the first zombie of the film gets a pie in the face, his foot caught in a bucket and steps on a rake, which is all put forth in a very straight manner, not the guffawed goofs of a Mel Brooks or Zucker Bros. film. Leslie Jordan’s worrisome Padre character was also a good laugh.
I liked the special effects make-up in this movie. The zombie looked pretty good, especially the really decayed ones. You got to see the progression into zombiedom in most of the characters which was pretty cool.
Not the funniest zombedy I’ve ever seen, but definitely funnier than most. At least you’re laughing at the jokes and not the special effects and lack of acting prowess. All in all a good flick.

I Am Legend - Is it a Zombie Movie?

I am Legend

I’ve had several people ask me why the ZRC hasn’t talked about I Am Legend yet. Personally, I don’t really consider it a zombie movie. Zombie-esque, sure. But not a real zombie movie. What do you think? We want the Zombie Reporting Center to be a community resource, so what do you, our readers, think? Is I Am Legend a zombie movie? Let us know in the comments!

World War Z Script Review

World War Z

The fine folks over IESB.net recently posted a raving review of the script for the upcoming World War Z movie. They REALLY liked it:

World War Z, as a screenplay, is the greatest handling of the living dead since Romero’s quadrilogy. And the first zombie script to have me wondering “Can a zombie film win an Oscar?”

They’ve taken an interesting route with the adaptation and are focusing on the events that lead to the novel’s writing, which makes it sound like more a political thriller than a horror movie. But in all it sounds very promising - let’s hope it gets the right director involved to make this movie a classic.

Merry Christmas from the ZRC

zombie santa

Yeah, this is just an excuse to use this cool picture, cuz this post has nothing to do with Christmas, unless you make the far away connection that Jesus was the first reported zombie in history and it’s his birthday. Anyway, check out this video on YouTube called Real Zombies! If you ever enjoyed shows like “Candid Camera” or “Punk’d”, you’ll get a kick out of it. I’d have embedded it right to this page, but hey, I’m the new guy, cut me some slack.
