Virtual Michigan Zombie Movie Fest

Zombie Night

You may not have been able to attend Zombie Night (part of the Mitten Movie Project) last night, but there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy many of the fine films we saw! Many of them are available on YouTube, so I’ve linked to them all below in sort of a virtual film fest:

  • Mangurt Commercial - Thought Collide Productions (the only non-zombie thing of the night and not on YouTube, sorry)
  • Cold Dead Hands (trailer) - Bad-Mag Films
  • Heaven’s Gate (trailer) - Biorythm Productions
  • InZer0 - Episode 7 (Zombie Edition) - Thought Collide Productions (no apparent YouTube link)
  • Buddy BeBop vs. The Living Dead (trailer) - Ream Enterprises (video is hosted on the creator’s website)
  • The Things That Ate Detroit - Directed by John Dunivant
  • Office Outbreak (trailer) - Directed by Shawn Woodard
  • Zombie Walk Detroit Invades Royal Oak! - by us
  • Gay Zombie - Directed my Michael Simon (only the trailer is available online. The actual movie ran 20 minutes)
  • Sock Puppet Zombies Attack - Directed by Taryn Shick (Taryn was kind enough to send me the link last night!)
  • Cuffed to Death - Directed by Mike Zawacki (not online)
  • The Dead Walk the Earth Yet They Live… And They Kill - Tears of Nimbus Films (not online)
  • Jesus Rises - Directed by Chris Brown
  • Zombie Love - Directed by Yfke Van Berckelaer (entire film was shown, link goes to website where you can check out trailer or buy the DVD)

Highlights for me were Buddy BeBop vs. The Living Dead (awesome style and music) The Things That Ate Detroit (CREEPY!!!) and Gay Zombie (hilarious). Sock Puppet Zombies Attack was just a little too out there for me (but the cat was cute). Overall I was really impressed with the stuff that was shown. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about our video but the crowd seemed to get a kick out of it and everyone laughed when the little kid beats the reporter with the arm.

What did you think of the videos? Let us know in the comments!

Since my last comments were so well received, I figgered I’d look over this program (though I feel cheated in not getting to see them in a theater…lucky ZRC folk!).
COLD DEAD HANDS trailer - Too short, darn it. Sometimes teasers are too much of a tease. This looks like it has some good black humor in it.
HEAVEN’S GATE trailer - Another web series (Oh noes! Adam must want to trash it! Circle the wagons!). Well, the trailer gives up some basic plot info (and unfortunately spoils a few character deaths…shame on you, trailer guy!). Good concept. Sadly, no eps are online yet.
BUDDY BEBOP VS THE LIVING DEAD trailer - I’ve seen this one before, thanks to my buddy Dave. Sure, it’s a ripoff of BUBBA HO-TEP. But it’s not, really. It’s Buddy Holly…oops…Buddy Bebop in his prime. Versus zombies. That’ll be the day indeed.
THE THINGS THAT ATE DETROIT - I have a soft-spot for the phrase “suddenly…and without warning” because of my friend Andy. The retro look to this hides a lot of the budgetary shorcomings. And the bad acting? Well, it’s perfect. I love the headlines. I love the strings on the skeleton. I love the brains aisle at the supermarket. I can see how Rob Zombie would have enjoyed this.
OFFICE OUTBREAK trailer - Damn. There are sure a lot of indie zombie films out there. Not that it’s a bad thing. It seems to have a bit of polish to it. Might have to check it out on DVD (it’s CHEAP!).
ZOMBIE WALK DETROIT 2007 - Hmmm. What can I bitch about with video of a zombie walk? Hmmm. I’ve got it. THOSE ZOMBIES LOOK LIKE THEY’RE HAVING TOO MUCH FUN! Someone call rexcase. I’m sure he has something to say about me not liking fun or something. Maybe he’ll try and insult my manhood again!
GAY ZOMBIE trailer - Wow. Just…wow. What do you say to a gay zombie film? I mean…wow.
Speaking of wow…I’m crushed that I can’t see SOCK PUPPET ZOMBIES ATTACK. Crushed I say.
JESUS RISES trailer - Sweet Zombie Jesus! There. Had to be said. Not fantastic, but not bad, and it has a lot of fun with Christianity and it’s iconic imagery. There were better trailers made for the GrindHouse contest, but I’m surprised this didn’t get more consideration.
ZOMBIE LOVE trailer - A zombie musical? I believe the internet parlance is WTF??? I have no doubt that a couple of my friends will buy that the moment I show them that it exists. Which means, sooner or later, I’ll be exposed to more ZOMBIE LOVE than I can handle.

Hmmm. No outright hatred. No bile. No constructive criticism.
I must have been replaced by a pod replicant! It’s the only explanation!

Who says zombies can’t be happy??

    Heh!

‘Twas being facetious. Looks like a blast.

Since I missed seeing SOCK PUPPET ZOMBIES ATTACK, let me say that my cat Bela fears the awesome might of Siouxie. Then again, he also fears socks. And the outside. And the internet. And squirrels.
