Zombies in Lansing

In the local free weekly college newspaper, The Noise, there’s an article concerning Lansing, MI, and if it would be ready for an all-out zombie attack and how to defend yourself. You can read the article online here. Most of it is your basic rehash of the standard zombie protocol, but there are a few funny lines from Max Brooks and the comments people have left about the article are hilarious, but also saddening when you realize so many people have no sense of humor. Why do people get so up in arms over an obviously fun-filler pre-Halloween article?

I actually have something to do with this story. I come from Lansing, Mi.. When Max Brooks book “World War Z” came out I began writing a series of stories about what happened in Lansing using the “WWZ” book as a template. I also began sending emails out to the local media and radio stations about what I was doing in the hope of enlisting others to write their zombie stories. Unfortunately, I had to leave the area in March of this year because I accepted an engineering project in NYC for the next two years.
Lansing is small but it is a fun city at times and this proves it. I didn’t get anyone to any stories but the idea was out there and apparently some one bit on it and it raced around the world. I love it! My website is up and I’m still very much interested in continuing Brooks idea for all localities. I’m willing to link up with anyone anywhere whose working on these ideas because, as Brooks showed, it forces you to see your world and its differences.
