Halloween Candy Reviews Week Two

31 Days of Halloween

Halloween Candy

The ZRC Taste Test Team assembled for another evening of tasty (and strange) Halloween candy.

Our beverage selection this week Jones’ Soda Gruesome Grape. As we poured it into the glass we realized this soda was GREEN instead of it’s usual purple color. (Unfortunately it didn’t photograph well)

Erin: I’m nervous about this one - let’s get it over with.
Erik: It’s just grape soda.
Erin: Did I mention I hate grape flavored pop? (takes a sip) I think I’m going to throw up.
Erik: I’m not impressed. It just tastes like normal.

We happened to find the next candy in the grocery store last week. It’s Lightning Pumpkins Gummy Candy. This stuff took normal, ordinary gummy pumpkins (that were orange flavored instead of pumpkin) and added a set of plastic tweezers that light the pumpkins up when squeezed! Who care if the gummy candy was a little too chewy and not that tasty? It lights up man! How awesome is that?

Lightning Pumpkins wins the Erik R. Zempel Memorial Award for Technology in Candy Seal of Approval (TM).Unfortunately after the awesome that is glowing gummy candy, anything else is inevitably going to be downhill from there. As is the case with Ice Breakers Sour Pumpkins. No kid is excited to get breath mints for Halloween no matter how you shape them.

Ice Breaker Sour Pumpkins

Despite little jack-o-lantern imprints, these were just disappointing. I was expecting them to be pumpkin flavored as well, but instead I got sour orange-mango. Is that a valid flavor combination? It was OK, not terrible, but Erin thought they were way too sour. She loves Sour Patch kids so I don’t understand that.

Finally we had the delicious York Peppermint Bat. After the sour Ice Breakers we were really excited to get something sweet into our systems so we devoured it before taking pictures. It looked the Batman symbol, in chocolate. And it was delicious. But you already know that. Everyone’s had York Peppermint Patties before it should be no surprise.
