ZRC Tutorial: How to Make a Bleeding Brain Dessert

31 Days of Halloween

Ever wish you were a zombie and could eat brains? Well this dessert is a close substitute for the real thing! It’s a brain shaped dish that actually “bleeds” when you cut into it! Check out our instructional video on how to make it below:

Complete recipe for the Bleeding Brain

  • Three 3 oz packages of strawberry gelatin mix (or some other similarly fleshy looking color)
  • Three packets of unflavored gelatin
  • 3 cups water
  • 12 oz package of evaporated millk
  • 1/2 Cup grenadine
  • 1 Cup light corn syrup
  • Red and green food coloring
  • One 1 gallon sized plastic bag
  • One brain gelatin mold (If you can’t find one you can order one from here: Human Brain Gelatin Mold on Amazon.com

Boil the water and add it to all 3 packages of flavored gelatin and all 3 packets of unflavored gelatin. Mix well and let cool to room temperature. Stir in evaporated milk and fill brain mold half-way with the mixture. Let mold cool in the refrigerator while leaving the leftover gelatin out.

Mix corn syrup, grenadine and food coloring to make the fake blood filling. Turn the plastic bag inside out, fill with fake blood, and tie off making sure there is no air pockets.

Once the brain mold has cooled, place the blood bag into the mold and fill the rest of the mold up with the leftover gelatin mixture. Cool fully.

When it’s time to serve the dish, cut into it with a large knife making sure to puncture the blood bag. Twist the knife slightly to make the blood ooze out.
